This week has been a week of change. I watched this video embedded below, called The Story of Cosmetics on the Story of Stuff website. A good friend of mine posted it on her Facebook wall, and I watched it. It literally had me spouting profanities, I had no idea all of these products were toxic. I had an idea about Parabens and that they are bad cancer causing, I had no idea about all the other toxins in our ‘stuff’. It made me angry, how can companies get away with this, how? I’m not sure how or why, but I know I can start a change with myself and lead an example for others. I can inform my friends, share on social media and voice my findings here on my blog.
This is the video that inspired my change, thank you sincerely Rachel for posting this on your Facebook wall:
It is not just cosmetics either, it is our laundry soaps, our dish washing detergents, our toothpaste, the soap I’ve always used to wash my baby girl (this had me furious, why are these companies allowed to put these toxins in their products and not have to label “contains toxins that cause cancer”). The toxins are also in our processed foods we eat, canned, frozen (processed) or otherwise known as the easy to-the-rescue meals for Mom. Well all of this is done. I am done.

I’m going to make a combo list of my own (combining these two, and other things I like to avoid or common SLS derivatives etc) I’ll post this when I make it).
For many who have already been living like this, thank you. For me my world is changing and onto finding out how to change. Where to find products, how to make my own products and most importantly how to find out what to avoid.
As most of you know, I have reviewed and subscribed to beauty boxes, I loved getting samples to try out, but now this new found knowledge about toxins has me unsubscribing . Instead of reviewing and blogging about them, I’m going to blog and review the process of how I’m going ‘natural’ or ‘toxin free’ as much as I can. It isn’t going to be an over night flash-of-lightning change. My husband is on board but he wants to finish using the products we have and then replace them. Except for things we use regularly like dishwasher detergent, baby products, laundry detergent, hand soap and toothpaste. The big thing is, he’s on board. I’m blessed to have a very supportive husband.
If you would like to follow and read about my journey, I would be happy to have you. Leave me comments, suggestions, send me info if you see something send it to me. I’m sure I’ll have days where I find the most amazing natural products or days where I’ll blog about the biggest flop. First step for me is the toxic chemical products, then it will be onto food.
I’ve created a hashtag #getmynaturalon if you’d like to follow me on twitter https://twitter.com/amandaleescott. I also have a Facebook page that I’ll be posting my blog posts to http://www.facebook.com/amanda.lee.scott.creative if you’d like to follow me there as well.
All the best and wish me luck!
