I was in the Stone store downtown Guelph during my lunch break yesterday looking for new natural essentials that were toxin free. It was really overwhelming at first, so many different things I needed, where to start?
I walked around and collected myself and decided ‘toothpaste’ was the way to start.
One of the employees was near by and I asked her which ones had she tried and liked and which one was the most natural. She told me about a few she had tried but pointed to Earthpaste and said it is so safe you can eat it!
When I picked up the box I noticed it had something familiar in it, Redmund clay. I’ve eaten that before and it was the one thing that helped get the thrush out of my body when Sophia was 5mths old (post later about this).
6 ingredients (descriptions from their faq page); Purified Water (to hydrate the clay into a creamy paste), Food Grade Redmond Clay (a polishing cleanser with antibacterial properties that has been used for centuries to promote digestive health), Xylitol (a natural sweetener that has been shown to promote healthy teeth), Redmond Real Salt (to enhance the flavour and lend antibacterial properties associated with sea salt), Tea Tree Oil (a natural, essential oil, commonly used to promote healthy skin, supports oral health with excellent anti-viral and anti-fungal properties) and lastly Cinnamon Essential Oil (brings a familiar, spicy flavour along with its reputation as an antioxidant used to promote healthy immune function).
They have three different kinds, mint, spearmint and cinnamon but, because I’m still nursing I stay away from mint as it reduces supply (maybe want to put a warning for breastfeeding women who don’t know this). I chose the cinnamon Earthpaste.
Last night I brushed my teeth with this Earthpaste. At first glance when on my brush, it looked like…clay. It smelled so good like cinnamon hearts, so I figured what the heck. To my surprise I couldn’t really taste the clay, it was like cinnamon hearts exploding in my mouth.
The Xylitol is what makes this sweet and it’s good for you. I think I read somewhere that it helps prevent caveties but don’t take my word on that.
It’s a natural sweetener like stevia made from a plant. It’s not a ‘-lose’ sugar, it won’t spike your blood sugar level but it tastes like sugar (unlike stevia). I’ve used this before in baking, coffee etc
The cinnamon oil isn’t too strong in this Earthpaste which is awesome.
While I was brushing I was surprised how fast it liquified but how well it was working. it doesn’t foam, it does something better…it cleans!
After I was done brushing my mouth felt cleaner than it has for a long time, quite like I was just at the dentist!
I love this toothpaste Earthpaste 🙂
