Natural Homemade Coconut White Chocolate Mint Lip Balm

Amanda Avatar

As much as I don’t want to admit it, winter is fast approaching. Which means my skin, face, hands and lips are going to dry out.
I was preparing to make natural homemade cleaning supplies today and I was putting away my cold pressed virgin coconut oil and I thought hummm, I’m going to try to make a balm for my lips.
I don’t wear a lot of make-up during the day to work so usually I like to wear a gloss or balm. So finding or making something that will work for me is great.
The container I used I had from a travel kit, I’m sure you can find them in any drug store.

I wanted something yummy, just not plain coconut oil as I’ve used this for my dry skin before straight from the jar.  I had some white vegan chocolate and I knew that would work well and yummy!
As I was slowly melting the two ingredients in a double boiler, I decided adding organic mint extract (not to be confused with essential oil) would be amazing!
Here is a picture of the melted mix before cooling.

It turned out amazing. It smells and tastes divine!

I only made enough for one small jar as I didn’t want to waste any and because its natural I don’t want it make to much. Once it cools the coconut oil helps re-melt the mixture as you rub your hand warming it up.

Here is my recipe:

1/2 tbsp – Organic Cold Pressed Coconut Oil
1/2 tbsp – Vegan White Chocolate (I’m sure you can use other white chocolate)
2 drops – Organic Mint Extract

Use a double boiler and melt the chocolate first and then melt in the coconut oil, take from heat stirring and add 2 drops of organic mint extract.
Pour into container and place into fridge to let cool.
The finished cooled lip balm

Enjoy!

***update summer 2014; I’ve actually added in 1/2 tbsp – organic beeswax, this does make it not vegan but it has a lower melt temp and I love the texture it gives.***

I do a Bee’s Wax cream that really works for cracked heels and dry skin!

    Nice!
I love mixing bee’s wax, I’m still in experiment mode with finding what will work with my skin etc.
